The story of Tatsumidai Shrine begins in 1968. Residents of the Tatsumidai area wanted a local place of worship. They established Tatsumidai Shrine as a branch of Kōzaki Hachiman Shrine. Kōzaki Hachiman Shrine is located in Kōzaki.
Tatsumidai Shrine enshrines three deities. They are Hachiman Okami, Okinagatarashihime no Mikoto and Tamayorihime no Mikoto. These gods watch over the community. They provide blessings of safety and well-being.
Each year on November 3rd a grand festival takes place. This is the shrine’s annual celebration. During the festival sacred palanquins are paraded through the streets. There are separate palanquins for adults and children. The adult palanquin procession runs from 10 AM to 5 PM. The children’s procession runs from 10:30 AM to 3 PM.
The procession route is quite extensive. It winds past local landmarks. These landmarks include MaxValu, Super Zendou, Yazukushikujira, Wood Land and Yanohara Factory Store. It also passes D2 and Marushin Sakaya. The parade route ends at the Akita shop. At various points along the way traditional dances are performed. These dances add to the festive atmosphere.
