“A sculpture garden?” you ask, intrigued. “Right here in Chengdu?” Yes indeed, right here before you stands the Chengdu Art Museum, or as it’s known in Chinese, the 成都美术馆. This place isn’t just any museum. The Chengdu Art Museum is a testament to the city’s vibrant art scene. And in a special exhibition in 2023, it transformed into a haven for sculptures. The exhibition, aptly named “Sculptures in the Garden,” was the brainchild of renowned Chinese painter Lin Yue. He envisioned it as a way to showcase the talent of Chengdu’s young artists during the Chengdu Universiade. Imagine this courtyard adorned with over 100 sculptures. Each piece, bursting with youthful energy, represented a unique perspective on the exhibition’s theme: “Sculptures in the Garden.” These weren’t just sculptures; they were a conversation between the artists and the world, a reflection of their dreams and anxieties, their joys and sorrows. The Chengdu Art Museum became a stage for their voices to be heard, a platform for their stories to be told.
