Here stands Toyonaka市立高川小学校. It is a public elementary school in Toyonaka, Osaka. The school’s story began in 1968.
In 1968 Toyonaka City established Takagawa Elementary School. It happened after separating from Shonon Elementary School and Toyonaka City Toyonaka Elementary School. Initially Takagawa Elementary School was located within Toyonaka Elementary School. Construction was ongoing.
By September 1968 part of the school building was complete. Grades one through three moved to the current location. High school students were enrolled from both schools by April 1969.
Did you know that Takagawa Elementary School received an award? In September 1969 it was recognized as an excellent school. It was awarded by the All Japan Good Teeth School. The gymnasium was completed in February 1970. A pool followed in June 1971.
The school song was created in January 1983. A computer room was newly established in November 2000. Earthquake-resistant construction on the school building started in 2012.
The school is located in Toyonaka City. Students come from Sone and Toyonaka areas. Most graduates advance to Toyonaka City Twelfth Junior High School.
Before Takagawa Elementary School existed the area was different. About 5000 years ago the Takagawa school district was under the sea. Around 2000 years ago soil was carried by rivers. This gradually created land.
The establishment of Takagawa Elementary School is linked to the Hankyu Railway. In 1951 Shonai Station was established. Roads were widened and houses increased. The school district’s population grew to 9103 people by 1970.
The school’s establishment was decided on September 29 1967. The Toyonaka City Council approved it as the 26th elementary school. Student numbers had exceeded 1000 at Toyonaka Elementary School. This led to the decision to build a new school.
Initially it was named Toyonaka City Fifth Elementary School. On April 1 1968 the name changed. Toyonaka City Takagawa Elementary School was born.
The school badge has a special meaning. The surrounding frame represents Toyonaka City. The symbols inside represent the energetic children. They also represent the flourishing green trees.
Once a river flowed through the school grounds. It was used to draw water to the fields. A bridge was necessary to reach the playing field. If a ball fell into the river it was difficult to retrieve. In 1974 the river was filled in.
Takagawa Elementary School started with 270 students. These students were in grades one through three. By 1978 the number exceeded 1000. In 1980 there were 1033 students in 28 classes. Since then the student population has gradually decreased.
Today Takagawa Elementary School continues to educate. It is a place of learning and growth in Toyonaka City. It has a long and interesting history. It began as a solution to overcrowding. It has grown into a valued part of the community.
