The school was established on April 1 1984. This came about because of rising enrollment at Toyonaka Municipal Shinden Elementary School. The growing number of students required a new school to ease overcrowding.

In January 1984 construction started on the new school building. Around the same time the school district boundaries were defined. In February 1984 the name Toyonaka Municipal Shinden Minami Elementary School was officially decided.

Initially the school building wasn’t ready. So classes were temporarily held within Shinden Elementary School. The new school building partially opened on August 28 1984. Classes then moved to the present location.

The school crest was established on November 1 1984. This date is celebrated as the school’s anniversary. From 1994 to 1995 the school was designated for educational research. This research focused on school libraries.

As of May 20 2024 Toyonaka Municipal Shinden Minami Elementary School has 524 students. These students come from 426 families. The school serves grades 1 through 6. There are three classes for each grade except for fourth grade which has two.

Children living in Kaminishida 3 and 4 attend this school. Graduates typically advance to Toyonaka Municipal Ninth Junior High School. The nearest station is Senri-Chuo Station. It is about a 22-minute walk south from the school.
