Did the shimmering cross atop Nishinomiya Seikou Church always catch the sunlight so perfectly? Here, just steps from JR Kōshienguchi Station in Nishinomiya, stands the Nishinomiya Seikou Church. This Protestant church, operated by the Japan Evangelical Lutheran Church, has been a beacon of faith since its founding on March 31, 1984. The warm wooden interior of Nishinomiya Seikou Church invites you in. It is a place where the community gathers every Sunday at 11:00 AM for services. It’s a place of solace and hope, echoing with hymns and prayers. The church also holds a special Kodomo (children’s) service and Hiroba (plaza) event every Friday. The Kodomo service runs from 4:30 PM to 5:00 PM, followed by Hiroba from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM. It is a testament to the church’s commitment to nurturing faith in the younger generation. Nishinomiya Seikou Church has a unique history. It faced a significant challenge in 1995 when the Great Hanshin Earthquake completely destroyed its old sanctuary. Yet, through the support of many, the current sanctuary was built and dedicated in 1997. A tangible reminder of this resilience can be seen at the entrance to the elevator. The old signboard from the original building is displayed there. Nishinomiya Seikou Church continues its mission to share the love of Jesus Christ.
