Have you ever dined on a bridge? At Anshun Bridge, that’s exactly what awaits you. Anshun Bridge isn’t just a bridge. It’s a vibrant blend of history, culture, and commerce, right here in the heart of Chengdu. It gracefully spans the Jin River, connecting Da’an Street to Wannianqiao Street. This isn’t the first Anshun Bridge to grace this spot. Its roots stretch back to a structure mentioned by Marco Polo himself during his 13th-century travels through China. Imagine, a bridge that has witnessed centuries of Chengdu’s evolution. Over time, Anshun Bridge has been rebuilt and renovated countless times, weathering floods and the changing tides of history. One notable renovation took place in 1677. The bridge then boasted a two-level wooden design. Statues of deities adorned the upper level, while the lower level bustled with pedestrians and merchants transporting their goods. After the Communist takeover of Chengdu in 1949, the bridge was rebuilt as a simpler, single-level structure. A later reconstruction in 1974 sadly met its demise during a 1981 flood. As part of the Fu’nan River restoration project in 1996, the current Anshun Bridge was meticulously redesigned and reconstructed. It was completed in 2003, echoing the historical charm of its predecessors while embracing modern functionality. The bridge now boasts three arches and seamlessly integrates commercial elements. Now, Anshun Bridge houses a popular restaurant, offering a unique dining experience with a view. It’s a beloved gathering spot for locals and tourists alike. The surrounding area has blossomed into a lively leisure and entertainment hub, teeming with bars, restaurants, and teahouses. After your meal, stroll along the riverbanks, soaking in the vibrant atmosphere. As darkness descends, Anshun Bridge transforms into a beacon of light, illuminating the Jin River and captivating onlookers with its beauty. It’s a true testament to Chengdu’s rich history and dynamic present.
