Lost in the labyrinthine corridors of time, imagine yourself standing before the Guanyin Hall, the main hall of the 菩薩殿 (Pusa Dian), also known as the 觀音殿 (Guanyin Dian). Here, within the sacred walls of the 菩薩殿, resides the revered Guanyin, the Goddess of Mercy. This isn’t just any statue; this is 送子觀音 (Songzi Guanyin) – the Child-Giving Guanyin. She is the heart of 菩薩殿, a beacon of hope for those seeking blessings of fertility and good fortune. The statue, draped in flowing robes, is adorned with intricate details. Her serene expression radiates compassion and tranquility, while her left hand gently caresses a child, symbolizing the gift of children. The ambiance within the 菩薩殿 is palpable, thick with the hopes and prayers of countless visitors. The 菩薩殿 itself is a testament to the enduring power of faith. Historical records suggest numerous renovations over the centuries, notably during the Jin Dynasty (1161-1189) and the Qing Dynasty (1796-1820). In 2006, a significant reconstruction took place, moving the 菩薩殿 slightly east of its original location. This project was generously funded by the former head of Longmen Ecological Park, Mr. Cuxilin. The very stones of this temple echo with history. Inscriptions, some dating back to 1172, tell tales of repairs and renovations, each a chapter in the long story of 菩薩殿. One inscription, from 1806, speaks of the main hall’s three rooms and the mystery surrounding their original construction date. Today, the 菩薩殿 stands as a sanctuary, a testament to centuries of devotion. It’s a place where the whispers of prayers mingle with the echoes of history. The Child-Giving Guanyin awaits, ready to offer solace and hope to all who seek her blessings.
