Established in October 1874 the Kasuga Elementary School stands before you. Its history is a long and winding road. It wasn’t always known by this name. This very spot has witnessed many changes over the years. Imagine the children who walked these grounds a century ago. They attended a school with a different name.

From its humble beginnings as Minami Ward Eighth District Second Subdistrict Second Ward Elementary School it evolved. Several name changes marked its journey. It became Minami Ward Elementary School then Gumi Cho Elementary School. Later it was called Kasuga Cho Elementary School. Finally in 1948 it became Kasuga Elementary School.

The school’s location has also played a role in its story. Initially located elsewhere it moved to its current site in March 1908. A new school building was constructed. The move marked a significant chapter in the school’s history. It better served the growing community.

The school’s evolution mirrors the broader changes in Japan. It showcases the growth and development of education. The building itself has undergone several renovations. A gymnasium was added in 1970. New classrooms and facilities were constructed.

In 1987 a new forest area was established on school grounds. It was named the “Kasuga Forest” a testament to the school’s connection to nature. A new school song was composed in 1919. The school flag was created in October 1920. These additions demonstrate the school’s commitment to enriching the lives of its students.

The school’s history isn’t just about buildings and names. It’s about the countless students who have passed through its doors. It’s about the teachers who shaped young minds. It’s a living testament to the community’s dedication to education. Think of the generations of families whose lives were touched by Kasuga Elementary School. This school represents continuity and progress within a dynamic society.

As you stand here today reflect on the rich legacy of Kasuga Elementary School. It continues to serve its community shaping future generations. Its enduring presence is a reminder of the importance of education and community spirit.
