Ibaraki City Oike Elementary School was founded in 1964. It emerged from the Ibaraki Elementary School district. The area east of the Hankyu Kyoto Line was separated to form it.
Let’s delve into the history of Ibaraki City Oike Elementary School. In February 1964 the city council approved its establishment. By April of the same year the school opened. It initially accommodated first to third grade students. Classes were temporarily held within Ibaraki Elementary School.
December 1964 saw a change. Part of the school district became part of the Ibaraki City Tamashima Elementary School district. In April 1965 the first phase of construction was completed. Parts of the school relocated to its current location. However third and fourth graders remained at Ibaraki Elementary.
The official opening ceremony occurred in April 1965. This date became the school’s founding anniversary. A PTA was established in May. Further construction finished in February 1966. By April all grades had moved to the present site of Ibaraki City Oike Elementary School.
In 1968 the school unveiled its anthem. Mr. Takezo Nakajo wrote the lyrics. Mr. Yoshinao Nakada composed the music. Further district changes occurred in 1969 and 1971. These changes were due to the opening of other elementary schools.
In August 1971 a support program for children of working families was established. A special needs class was added in April 1976.
Notably Ibaraki City Oike Elementary School once had an astronomical observatory. This was rare for elementary schools in Ibaraki City. However it no longer exists.
