Gazing up at Su Yuan Shan, have you ever wondered about its secrets? Su Yuan Shan isn’t merely a peak. It’s a time capsule. It whispers stories of ancient battles and forgotten dynasties. Su Yuan Shan stands at 61.2 meters above sea level. Its dramatic rise of 23 meters creates a striking silhouette against the Guangzhou skyline. Located in the Huangpu District, near Liangang Village, Su Yuan Shan offers more than just a scenic view. It holds a piece of Guangzhou’s heart. Legend says the revered Su Shi, also known as Su Zhe, sought refuge on this very hill in 1094. He was traveling from Yingde to Huizhou. Imagine him, finding respite on these slopes, perhaps composing poetry amidst the tranquility. Su Yuan Shan also cradles echoes of the past beneath its surface. In 1965, five bronze artifacts from the pre-Qin era were unearthed here. These relics offer a glimpse into a civilization that thrived centuries ago. Su Yuan Shan isn’t alone in its historical significance. The nearby Fangcun Mountain and Ma Zi Shan form a range that was slated to become the Su Yuan (Fangcun Mountain) Forest Park. The planned park, with an initial area of 286 hectares, faced hurdles due to land ownership disputes and requisition conflicts. While currently on hold, the dream of this green space still lingers, a testament to the ongoing evolution of Su Yuan Shan and its surroundings. Today, Su Yuan Shan serves as part of the campus for the Guangzhou No.2 Middle School and the Su Yuan School in the Huangpu District. It’s a place where history and education intertwine. As you stand here, gazing at Su Yuan Shan, remember that you are not just looking at a peak. You’re looking at a story, etched in stone and whispered on the wind.
