Beneath the eaves of Injuji Temple, a story unfolds. Injuji Temple, also known as Injūji, stands as a testament to a lineage intertwined with both spiritual and martial pursuits. The temple’s founder, a descendant of the Chiba clan, sought to honor his ancestor, Injū. He established Injuji Temple in the year 1000. The name itself, Injuji, pays homage to this revered figure. Within the temple grounds lie the graves of prominent figures. Hasegawa Shinryu and his son, Hasegawa Shinkei, rest here. Shinryu, born in 1813, was a renowned martial artist. He served as an instructor at the Edo Bakufu. He later dedicated himself to teaching Judo at the Chiba prefectural training center. His son, Shinkei, also left his mark on the world of martial arts. He was one of the first Judo instructors at the Dai Nippon Butoku Kai. Injuji Temple holds a unique piece of Chiba’s history. It whispers tales of samurai and spiritual devotion. It connects us to the legacy of the Chiba clan and the evolution of martial arts in Japan. Injuji Temple stands not merely as a place of worship. It serves as a living chronicle of history, culture, and the enduring spirit of the Chiba clan.
