Wonder how many stories these walls could tell? We are standing before \u7fd2\u5fd7\u91ce\u5e02\u7acb\u7b2c\u4e8c\u4e2d\u5b66\u6821. It is a public middle school located in Narashino, Chiba Prefecture. Locals often call it “Nichu.”
\u7fd2\u5fd7\u91ce\u5e02\u7acb\u7b2c\u4e8c\u4e2d\u5b66\u6821 was established in 1947. Its educational goal is to cultivate students who learn independently and have rich humanity. The school was originally named Tsudamachi Municipal Tsuda Junior High School. It was located within the current Narashino City Tsuda Elementary School.
In 1947, the school moved to a new building. This building was the former army engineers’ barracks in Oazakubo. In 1948, a remodeled army tank storage building became the school building. In 1949, the school split and was renamed Tsudamachi Municipal Second Junior High School.
\u7fd2\u5fd7\u91ce\u5e02\u7acb\u7b2c\u4e8c\u4e2d\u5b66\u6821 opened in September 1949. In 1954, Narashino City was established. The school’s name changed to Narashino City Second Junior High School.
In 1958, Narashino City Second Junior High School and Narashino City Tsudanuma Junior High School merged. The new school kept the name Narashino City Second Junior High School. At this time, there were 881 students. The school established its school badge, flag and song. In November 1958, the school moved to its current location. It was a new school building with a unique circular design.
In 1961, special classes were established. A gymnasium was completed that same year. More special classrooms were added in 1966. In 1969, Narashino City Fourth Junior High School was created. This reduced the number of students at \u7fd2\u5fd7\u91ce\u5e02\u7acb\u7b2c\u4e8c\u4e2d\u5b66\u6821.
A four-story reinforced concrete school building was added in 1970. A swimming pool was completed in 1972. In 1974, another four-story reinforced concrete school building was added. The “Nichu o Yokusu Kai” was founded. This translates to the “Association to Make Nichu Better.” In 1975, the group was renamed “Nichu Koenkai” meaning “Nichu Support Association.”
More school buildings were added in 1977. In 1978, Narashino City Fifth and Sixth Junior High Schools were created. A special classroom for students with emotional and developmental disabilities was established in 1979. In December 1979, a management building was completed on the site of the circular school building.
Several notable people are alumni of \u7fd2\u5fd7\u91ce\u5e02\u7acb\u7b2c\u4e8c\u4e2d\u5b66\u6821. They include Daichi Suzuki. He is a former swimmer and Olympic gold medalist. Tsuyoshi Ogawa is a former professional baseball player. He also managed the Tokyo Yakult Swallows. Kazuo Fukuoka is another former professional baseball player. Fujio Tamura and Kota Iwata are also alumni.
\u7fd2\u5fd7\u91ce\u5e02\u7acb\u7b2c\u4e8c\u4e2d\u5b66\u6821 has a rich history. It has overcome many challenges to become what it is today. It continues to educate and inspire students in Narashino.
