Hidden in the northwest of Hubei province lies Zhuxi County. Its name Zhuxi County is derived from the Zhuxi River. This river flows through a landscape abundant with bamboo forests. These forests gave the river its name Bamboo Stream River. Zhuxi County’s history stretches back to the Chu State. Remnants of the Great Wall of Chu stand as silent witnesses to this ancient past.

Established in 1476 during the reign of the Chenghua Emperor Zhuxi County has witnessed many changes. It changed jurisdictions several times. In 1914 it was under Xiangyang Circuit. The Republic of China reorganized its administration in 1932. Zhuxi County was part of the 11th Administrative Inspectorate of Hubei Province. This changed to the 8th Inspectorate in 1936. After the establishment of the People’s Republic of China in 1949 Zhuxi County was under Liangyun Prefecture. This became Yunyang Prefecture the following year. In 1952 it moved to Xiangyang Prefecture. It returned to Yunyang Prefecture in 1965. Finally in 1994 it became part of the prefecture-level city of Shiyan. Its administrative divisions have also evolved. In 2010 Longba became a town. Bingying and Huiwan also gained town status in 2013.

Zhuxi County boasts a varied geography. Mountains dominate its landscape. The highest point reaches an impressive 2740 meters. The Zhuxi River and Huiwan River are vital waterways. They flow into the larger Han River. The county enjoys a pleasant climate. The average annual temperature is 14 degrees Celsius. Annual precipitation averages around 1000 millimeters.

Zhuxi County’s economy relies on natural resources. The area is rich in coal limestone and marble. It also leads the nation in Taxus chinensis production. This is a remarkable fact. It showcases the unique ecosystem of Zhuxi County. The county offers a captivating blend of history nature and economy. It’s a place where ancient walls meet modern industry. The bamboo forests whisper tales of centuries past. The mountains stand tall against the sky. Zhuxi County is a hidden gem in Hubei Province a place well worth exploring.
