Fuyin Church, established in 2008 as Early Rain Blessings Church, has a rich history intertwined with the growth of Christianity in Chengdu. It began as a small fellowship in Pastor Wang Yi’s home in 2005. Just thirteen days after the devastating 2008 Sichuan earthquake, it formally became a church. Fuyin Church quickly grew, attracting members from other house churches and forming the Presbytery of West China Reformed Churches. Beyond its spiritual role, Fuyin Church established a kindergarten, a day school, a seminary, and a liberal arts college. This expansion showcases its dedication to education and community development.
Fuyin Church embraces the Reformed Presbyterian tradition. It adheres to core Christian doctrines, acknowledging creeds like the Apostles’ Creed and Nicene Creed. It also follows the Belgic Confession and the Westminster Confession of Faith. The church’s name, “Autumn Rain,” draws inspiration from Psalm 84:6, which speaks of blessings and refreshing springs. This name reflects the church’s hope to provide spiritual nourishment and renewal to its members.
However, the church’s journey has been marked by challenges. Fuyin Church, under the leadership of Pastor Wang Yi, has faced repeated persecution for its unwavering faith. In December 2018, a significant crackdown led to the detention of over 100 church members, including Pastor Wang Yi and his wife. This event highlighted the difficult realities faced by Christian communities in China. Despite these hardships, the spirit of Fuyin Church remains unbroken. Members continue to gather and worship, even in the face of adversity, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to their faith.
