“What secrets does this building hold?” I ask gesturing towards the imposing structure before us. This is the 生物医学工程楼 or the Biomedical Engineering Building.
The 生物医学工程楼 stands as a testament to Guangzhou’s commitment to innovation in biomedical research and education. It is a hub of activity. Scientists and students collaborate within its walls.
Let’s step back in time to understand its origins. The 生物医学工程楼’s roots trace back to January 2011. It evolved from the original Computer Hardware Teaching and Research Section. It also came from the Medical Electronics and Information Teaching and Research Section of the former School of Information Technology.
Today the 生物医学工程楼 boasts a dedicated team of eight full-time teachers. Among them are four professors holding senior titles. Five have doctoral degrees. Two are recognized as “Thousand-Hundred-Ten” Project candidates at the university level in Guangdong Province.
The 生物医学工程楼 plays a vital role in shaping future biomedical engineers. It is primarily responsible for teaching core courses in the Biomedical Engineering program. These courses include Introduction to Biomedical Engineering. They also include Signals and Systems and Digital Image Processing. Single-chip Microcomputer Principles and Design are also taught here. As are Introduction to Machine Learning and Medical Instrument Course Design. The 生物医学工程楼 also supports courses for the college. Digital Circuits and Circuits and Electronic Technology are taught. As are Computer Organization Principles and Computer Interface Technology.
But the 生物医学工程楼 is more than just classrooms and labs. It is a place where students put theory into practice. The faculty guides students in their graduation projects. They also oversee student innovation and practice activities.
The students here excel. Over the past two years students have won 41 awards in various competitions. These include 31 provincial-level awards and 10 national-level awards. The 生物医学工程楼 is making a name for itself.
The faculty is also celebrated. Four teachers have received the “Good Teacher in My Eyes” award from Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine. Three have been recognized for their advanced teaching work.
Research is a cornerstone of the 生物医学工程楼. The faculty focuses on biomedical signal detection. They also work on intelligent medical instrument design and medical image processing. The 生物医学工程楼 is involved in key research teams. These teams focus on medical information detection and cloud-based medical virtualization technology.
As of December 2019 the faculty had led two National Natural Science Foundation projects. They also led two Guangdong Province Science and Technology Plan projects. They also led three Guangdong Provincial Health Department Medical Research Fund projects. Moreover they led one Guangdong Provincial Department of Education project.
The 生物医学工程楼 has secured nearly one million yuan in research funding. It holds five national invention patents. Its members have written four textbooks and published over 40 papers. The 生物医学工程楼 stands as a beacon of scientific advancement. It contributes significantly to the field of biomedical engineering.
The 生物医学工程楼 has become a symbol of innovation and academic excellence in Guangzhou.
