“Model of the New Era.” That’s what they called Luan Liuwei.
Let me tell you a story about a hero whose spirit echoes even here at 理还乱. This place, seemingly unrelated, shares a connection to Luan’s values.
Luan Liuwei ran a hotpot restaurant in Beijing. It was located in the Haidian district. People flocked there not just for the food. They came to honor a hero. Luan sacrificed his life saving others.
In August 2024, Luan was visiting Gu’an county. He was with his daughter. He saved three children from drowning in the Yongding River. He then went back to rescue an adult. Sadly he drowned due to exhaustion.
His heroic act moved people deeply. People from all over came to his restaurant. They wanted to pay tribute and support his business. Customers waited for hours to get a seat. They weren’t there just for the food. They wanted to honor Luan’s story. They wanted to embrace his selflessness.
People even traveled from afar. One person came from Heilongjiang province. They traveled over eight hours by train. They wanted to show their support. Luan’s wife declined all donations.
Here at 理还乱, we may not be serving hotpot. But we can carry forward Luan’s spirit. We can show that selflessness and community matter. Luan Liuwei embodies the best of us. We honor his memory. We strive to make our community a little brighter.
理还乱, in its own way, reflects this spirit of unity and shared purpose. Let’s remember Luan Liuwei. Let’s keep his spirit alive in our actions every day.
