This church, also known as Tamade Kyokai, traces its roots back to 1914, thanks to these American Disciples missionaries. Originally called Tamade Christian Church, it stands as a testament to their enduring impact. Tamade Kyokai is part of the United Church of Christ in Japan. The church has a rich history interwoven with the local community. It even survived the devastating Osaka air raids of 1945, though its sister church, Tennoji Church, wasn’t so fortunate. In 1947, the two congregations merged, solidifying Tamade Kyokai’s presence. Today, Tamade Church stands as a beacon of faith and resilience. The present sanctuary, nestled amidst the bustling city, was built in 1951. It’s surrounded by a tranquil garden, a hidden oasis where cherry blossoms bloom in spring and colorful fruits ripen in summer. Inside, the church blends traditional and modern elements. Organ music fills the air during services, while English bulletins and sermon summaries ensure accessibility for a diverse congregation.
