Thousands of jade Buddha statues. That’s what makes Yufo Temple in Beijing so special. This isn’t just any temple. It’s a treasure trove of religious art and history.

Yufo Temple originally known as the “Laws and Records Temple” has a long and storied past. It was built during the Sui and Tang dynasties approximately between 557 and 581 AD. Sadly it was destroyed in the early years of the Republic of China. However its story doesn’t end there.

In August 2003 the Tianjin Municipal Religious Affairs Bureau approved its reconstruction. It reopened in May 2010. It was renamed Yufo Temple then. The temple covers 400 square meters. The main axis runs from south to north. You can see the Mountain Gate the Heavenly King Hall the Great Hero Treasure Hall and the Sleeping Buddha Hall. To the east are the Literary Hall the Viewing Sound Hall and the Guest Hall. To the west are the General Hall the Ground Record Hall and the Dharma Propagation Hall. Each hall connects to the next. The architecture is impressive. The building’s atmosphere is serene. The Buddhist colors are deep. The temple reflects national folk customs.

But the most striking feature of Yufo Temple is its collection. It houses over ten thousand jade Buddha images. The Sleeping Buddha statue is particularly noteworthy. It’s seven meters long three meters high and weighs twenty-five tons. Carved from a single piece of natural jade this statue is breathtaking. Its jade is warm to the touch. Its color is clear and pure. The craftsmanship is exquisite. This is truly a priceless work of art.

Since its reopening Yufo Temple has become a popular destination. It’s a significant site for Buddhist activities in Beijing and beyond. It’s a place where people come to pray reflect and connect with their spiritual side. It is a significant tourist attraction in Beijing and even a major center of Buddhist tourism in northern China.

Today as you stand here you can almost feel the weight of history and faith. The jade Buddha statues seem to whisper stories of centuries past. Yufo Temple is more than just a place of worship. It’s a living testament to the enduring power of faith and art.
