The Londoner Macao wasn’t always The Londoner. It began as Cotai Strip parcels five and six. Aedas a leading architecture firm designed it. Hsin Chong Construction Group built this colossal complex. Initially envisioned as Sands Cotai Central it opened in 2012. The project faced challenges. Government restrictions on foreign workers slowed construction. The global economic crisis caused a significant delay. Securing the necessary gaming tables was another hurdle. Macau’s government imposed a cap. Sands Cotai Central opened despite these setbacks. Its grand opening was a spectacle. High-wire walker Jade Kindar-Martin and his wife walked a tightrope between the Venetian and the Conrad Hotel.
But the story doesn’t end there. Sands Cotai Central didn’t quite meet expectations. Las Vegas Sands decided on a rebranding. A London theme was chosen. The transformation began. The Holiday Inn Macao closed its doors to undergo a massive renovation. It reopened as The Londoner Hotel. The number of rooms was halved to make way for more luxurious accommodations. The redesign included a stunning Crystal Palace atrium. A replica of the Shaftesbury Memorial Fountain was installed. New restaurants and shops opened. The Londoner Macao officially opened in 2021.
The Londoner Macao is more than a renovation. It is a celebration of British culture. The rebranding was ambitious. It included the creation of the Londoner Arena. It seats 6000 people.
