During the war Chiang Kai-shek published a book titled China’s Destiny on March 10 1943. It contained the phrase “Without the Kuomintang there would be no China.” In response, the Chinese Communist Party published an editorial in the Jiefang Daily on August 25 1943. The editorial was entitled “Without the Communist Party there would be no China”. The editorial criticized Chiang Kai-shek’s book. It concluded that “If today’s China had no Communist Party of China, there would be no new China.”
Inspired by this editorial, Cao Huoxing, a 19-year-old member of the Communist Party, penned the lyrics to the song. In 1950, Mao Zedong himself added the word “new” to the title. It became “Without the Communist Party, There Would Be No New China.”
