A sprawling campus a city within a city. That’s the Shahe Campus of Beihang University. This isn’t just any university campus. It’s a meticulously planned community. It boasts a vast area nearly 97000 square meters. That’s over 1459 mu. Imagine a self-contained world.

The Shahe Campus was a vision. It came to fruition in 2010. The need for a second campus was clear. The original campus was becoming overcrowded. The students needed more space. Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics needed a new home for its growing student body. This new campus was planned as a response to the third National Educational Work Conference. The Beijing Municipal Party Committee and the Municipal Government approved the project. Land measuring 1580 mu was allocated.

Construction began in 2007. However funding issues delayed things. The Shahe Campus fully opened in September 2010. Around 3003 undergraduate students were the first to move in. They are now fondly known as the “Shahe Pioneers”. The campus’s opening ceremony was grand. It included the official launch of the campus shuttle bus system.

More than just classrooms and labs the Shahe Campus provides everything. Students have dormitories canteens teaching buildings and experiment buildings. There’s a power station a boiler room a sewage treatment plant an engineering training center. There’s even a comprehensive sports center. It includes a 400-meter standard track a basketball court. There’s also a student activity center with twelve table tennis courts eight badminton courts. There are even four volleyball courts. A 186 meter long fitness track wraps around the campus.

The Shahe Campus is also beautiful. Over 5000 trees have been planted. The campus features a central scenic promenade and a man made lake. There are sculpted monuments. These depict the spirit of the university. A six meter high sculpture called “The Voice of the Times” stands proudly. The campus design blends the natural landscape with modern architecture.

In 2018 a significant development occurred. The Beijing Beihang University Communication Institute moved to the Shahe Campus. This marked the beginning of resource reallocation between the two campuses. Later that year the National Aerospace Science and Technology Experimental Hall was renamed the Shahe Main Building. The Shahe Campus continues to expand. It serves as a testament to the university’s commitment to its students. It’s a vibrant community. It’s a living example of a modern educational hub.
