Seeking solace? Mizunomi Jizō-in Temple offers a quiet respite. Here at Mizunomi Jizō-in, perched on the slopes of Mount Ikoma, the bustling city of Osaka sprawls beneath you. Mizunomi Jizō-in, often simply called “Mizunomi Jizō,” is more than just a temple. It’s a vantage point, a place of healing, and a whisper of history all in one. The temple grounds offer a panoramic view of the Osaka Plain. This view is broader than the one from the more popular Jūsan Pass lookout. Within Mizunomi Jizō-in rests a stone Jizō Bosatsu statue. Legend claims this statue was placed here in 836 by the monk Ennin. However, the current statue dates back to 1694. South of the main temple building, a smaller structure houses a spring. This spring, known as “Ennin’s Water,” is said to have miraculous properties. Legend says Ennin prayed for water for travelers crossing Jūsan Pass. The spring miraculously appeared. Even today, people visit Mizunomi Jizō-in to collect this water, believing it can cure ailments. Mizunomi Jizō-in is a peaceful escape from the city’s hustle.
