Originally known as the Haitang Terrace the name Wuling Spring reflects a fascinating story. Legend says that during the Ming Dynasty a Buddhist patriarch sought enlightenment here. The area’s constant cloud cover earned it the name Wuling Mountain.
In 1645 the Qing government declared it a forbidden area. This seclusion allowed nature to flourish. Today Wuling Spring boasts a rich ecosystem. It’s even been called a “Gene Bank of Species in North China”.
The spring house itself is a marvel of modern architecture. It blends seamlessly with its surroundings. The building is raised on columns minimizing its environmental impact. Visitors enter through a reception area. A relaxation lounge offers stunning views of the valley and the surrounding trees.
Then you reach the thermal pools. They are situated under eight eight-meter-high light wells. These wells fill the space with soft light creating a tranquil atmosphere. The pools are at varying temperatures and water treatments. From the pools you can glimpse the cliffs of the nearby valley.
