Hidden deep within the grounds of the Beijing Beihai Park lies Zhengjue Cave. This isn’t just any cave. It’s a place steeped in legend and history. For centuries Zhengjue Cave has been a sanctuary a hidden world.

Legend speaks of a Buddhist monk a master of the arcane arts. He discovered this very cave. He found two creatures a white and a green snake. He recognized their ancient power. He dedicated his life to refining them. The monk transformed them into two beautiful maidens. Bai Suzhen the white snake and Qing Niang the green snake. They were sisters. They cultivated the land around Zhengjue Cave. They built roads and bridges.

Disease ravaged the mountain. The sisters were helpless. Then a kind young man arrived. He was a skilled herbalist named Xie Xian. He came to collect herbs for the Emperor’s birthday gift. He helped the villagers. Xie Xian fell in love with Bai Suzhen. They lived happily. However the Emperor was displeased. Xie Xian was punished. He was banished to the underworld.

Bai Suzhen and Qing Niang were heartbroken. They built a raft. They followed the river. They searched for Xie Xian. Eventually Bai Suzhen and Xie Xian found each other. Their love story became a well-known tale.

Today we stand before Zhengjue Cave. We can almost feel the echoes of their story. We can see the beauty they helped create. The cave itself is a reminder of a rich past. It’s a testament to faith love and resilience. The tale of Zhengjue Cave is a small but precious jewel in the crown of Beijing’s history. It’s a tale worth remembering.
