Nissho Elementary School opened in 1869. It was initially known as the Fourth Group Elementary School of Shimogyo Ward. The school was in Higashinotouin Sanjo which is now Umeyacho. In 1872, the school purchased this land. It relocated a former Yamashina Imperial Villa building to serve as the school building. At that time, it was renamed Takamatsu Elementary School.
In 1876, a significant change occurred. The governor of Kyoto Prefecture, Masanao Makimura, officially named it Nissho Elementary School. This name remained until its closure.
For many years, Nissho Elementary School served the community. However, the number of children in the urban area decreased. In 1993, Nissho Elementary School was integrated with Ritsuo and Seisho Elementary Schools. It marked the end of its independent existence.
