Established in 1949 as the Osaka Municipal Life Science Research Institute attached Nutrition School, it started as a one-year system. In 1950 it transitioned to a two-year system. Over the years the school underwent several name changes. It became the Osaka Municipal Hygiene Research Institute attached Nutrition School in 1950. In 1974 it was renamed the Osaka Municipal Environmental Science Research Institute attached Nutrition School. Finally in 1977 it took its final name.
Interestingly the school was attached to the Osaka Municipal Environmental Science Research Institute. This setup allowed for unique educational opportunities. Researchers from the institute served as instructors. Students used the institute’s facilities for practical training. The research institute provided comprehensive support across all areas of education.
After the closure of Ishikawa Prefectural Kanazawa Women’s Vocational School in 2003 it became the only public nutritionist training school in the country.
