Have you ever heard of the Hirakata Municipal Bansho Elementary School designated site? It’s a fascinating place that holds a window into the past and present of education in Hirakata. This site is where two former elementary schools, Hirakata Municipal Takayama Elementary School and Hirakata Municipal Chuo Kita Elementary School, were merged in 2022. The old Takayama Elementary School was established much earlier in 2008. However, the old Chuo Kita Elementary School was built even earlier in 2014.
The merger was a necessity as both the old schools were small-scale and the growing student population was a concern. In 2016, the Hirakata City Educational Reform Committee considered various merger options, including nearby Bansho First Elementary School and Meiken Elementary School. They meticulously sought the optimal solution by examining enrollment capacities, school district relationships, and other crucial factors, finally concluding that the Takayama and Chuo Kita merger was the most suitable.
The new school building is under construction at the site of the old Takayama Elementary School. The construction is anticipated to be completed in the summer of 2026. The new school will feature an English education emphasis, strong ICT use, and disaster prevention facilities. The area features a bus stop. The combined Hirakata Municipal Bansho Elementary School is expected to be a modern and forward-thinking institution, contributing significantly to the educational landscape of Hirakata.
