Opened in 1964, the Toyo Show Theater, also known as the Tōyō Shō Gekijō, stands as a testament to Japan’s unique striptease culture. Right here in Osaka’s Kita Ward, this theater, with its intimate 87 seats, offers a glimpse into a world of “beauty” as defined by Japanese women. Interestingly, there used to be many theaters with the same name across Japan. From Sendai to Kagoshima, Toyo Entertainment once had a widespread presence. Now, this Toyo Show Theater is the last one standing. Over the years, this theater has seen its share of controversy. In 2007, several performers were arrested, and the theater faced an eight-month suspension. Again, in 2012, there were more arrests. Yet, the Toyo Show Theater has persevered, even observing a two-day closure during the G20 Osaka Summit in 2019. As recently as 2024, there were more arrests related to illegal activities. Despite these events, the Toyo Show Theater continues to operate, its bright lights beckoning visitors into a world of artistry and allure. For 4,500 yen, you can enjoy a full day of performances, with five talented performers putting on four shows daily. Drinks are available at the stylish counter bar for 500 yen each.
