Higashiyokobori Bridge connects the Wabayashi and Shimanouchi areas of Osaka’s central Chuo Ward. The bridge is a vital link in the city, marking the division between the first and second blocks of the surrounding district. Interestingly, the Hanshin Expressway’s Loop Line soars above Higashiyokobori Bridge, creating a layered tapestry of transportation. Higashiyokobori Bridge emerged as part of Osaka’s First City Planning Project. This project, championed by then-Mayor Seki, focused on broadening and improving the city’s road network. The bridge replaced the existing Shiomibashi-suji, a street famous for its connection to the America-mura district and the Europa-dori avenue. The construction of Higashiyokobori Bridge effectively linked the Tamatsukuri and Kyujō districts, streamlining travel between these two areas. Originally a steel arch bridge, Higashiyokobori Bridge underwent renovations in 1994. These renovations enhanced not only the bridge’s structure but also its aesthetic appeal. The bridge pillars now boast stylish road lighting, giving the bridge a distinct retro charm.
