What secrets does Wanglongtai Park hold? We stand at the entrance to Wanglongtai Park, a place steeped in local legend. Its name, meaning “Looking Dragon Platform,” comes from a tale of the Wu Yue King’s son. He supposedly caught a white dragon while fishing from a platform on the river. This platform, the story claims, gave the park its unique name. Wanglongtai Park itself is a relatively recent addition to Taizhou’s landscape. It was built in 1998 as one of ten public works projects. The grand entrance, known as the “Viewing Platform,” is framed by eight Roman-style columns and a large fountain. Inside the park, you’ll find a fishing platform, a leisure pavilion, a sand volleyball court, a service building, and a parking area. The park’s designers planted a diverse collection of trees and flowers. These include camphor trees, southern casuarinas, and crape myrtles. There’s even an ancient “Three Treasures Temple” hidden within the park’s grounds. Wanglongtai Park offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and waters. The air is fresh and invigorating. Standing on the Viewing Platform, you can gaze out at the Qiantang River. It’s said that from this vantage point, the river resembles a giant white dragon swimming eastward.
