From this vantage point, imagine the past unfolding before you. This is Kiyomizu-no-Oka Stage at Tenryuji Temple. Kiyomizu-no-Oka Stage offers a breathtaking view. It reveals the sprawling cityscape of Kyoto.

Tenryuji Temple itself is a historical gem, nestled in the Arashiyama district of Kyoto. Founded in 1339 by Ashikaga Takauji, it holds a prominent place as one of Kyoto’s five great Zen temples. Tenryuji Temple was designed to appease the restless spirit of Emperor Go-Daigo. The temple’s gardens, particularly the Sogen Pond Garden, remain largely unchanged since their creation. They offer a glimpse into the aesthetic principles of the Muromachi period.

The Kiyomizu-no-Oka Stage is so named for its resemblance to the famous Kiyomizu-dera Temple’s wooden stage. This vantage point provides a stunning panorama of the city. It also affords an exceptional view of the cherry blossoms within Tenryuji Temple’s grounds. The cherry trees, numbering approximately 200, paint the landscape in shades of pink and white each spring. The weeping cherry tree near the Tahoden (the building where Emperor Go-Daigo’s image is enshrined) is a particular highlight. It seems to shower blossoms onto the scene.

The vibrant azaleas and various other flowers in full bloom around the Hyakkaen (Hundred Flower Garden) add an extra layer of beauty. This explosion of color makes Kiyomizu-no-Oka Stage the perfect spot to soak in the vibrant hues of spring. Come and witness this incredible display. Experience the serenity of Tenryuji and the beauty of Kiyomizu-no-Oka Stage. Let the vibrant colors and rich history transport you.
