Built in 1971, the Shijonawate City Shijonawate Minami Junior High School holds a special place in Osaka’s educational history. Shijonawate Minami Junior High was created due to rising populations after World War II. The original Shijonawate Junior High School couldn’t accommodate the growing number of students. The city decided to split the school district. Shijonawate Minami Junior High was born. Like other city schools, it offered a treasured school lunch program. This program, a rarity in other prefectures, emphasized nutritious meals for growing students. This wasn’t always common in Japanese schools. It highlights the city’s commitment to its children’s well-being. The school originally used a specialized classroom system. Teachers had designated classrooms for their subjects. Students moved between these rooms for each class. This system reflects a focus on subject-specific learning environments. Shijonawate Minami Junior High was part of a larger educational reorganization in the city. The area saw significant residential development. New schools were built to keep pace with the growing population. Shijonawate Nishi Junior High and later, Tadenahara Junior High were established, further dividing the original school district. The school finally closed its doors in 2019. This was due to another city school reorganization plan. Shijonawate Minami Junior High’s story ended. However, its legacy lives on in the memories of its students. It served as a cornerstone of education in Shijonawate for almost fifty years. It stands as a testament to the city’s commitment to learning. The school building may be gone. But its impact on the community remains.
