Did you know that Shin-Tsudanuma Station in Narashino Chiba Prefecture has a secret history? It’s a story of relocation and a forgotten spur line. This isn’t just any station. Shin-Tsudanuma Station holds a significant place in Chiba’s railway history. Its original location was 300 meters from its current site. This is where our story unfolds.

Shin-Tsudanuma Station first opened on December 27 1947. However its early years were far from settled. From 1953 to 1968 a spur line branched off. It connected to Maebara Station. It also passed Fujisakidai Station. Fujisakidai Station replaced Shin-Tsudanuma Station for a time. This lasted until 1961 when the original station reopened. The entire spur line and Fujisakidai Station were demolished in 1968. The current Shin-Tsudanuma Station opened that same year. It’s a testament to the dynamic nature of urban development.

Think about this: a railway station moved. Imagine the disruption. Imagine the workers and the engineers. They had to painstakingly relocate the station. They had to rebuild platforms and tracks. This was not a small undertaking. The tracks themselves held a unique shape. It was not a straight line. The reason for this unusual curve is less clear. However it is believed that it was designed to avoid a particular obstacle. Perhaps a body of water or a significant geographical feature. We can only speculate.

The station’s significance doesn’t end there. Shin-Tsudanuma Station serves as a vital connection point. It links the Shin-Keisei Line to other crucial lines. This includes the JR East Sobu Main Line. Its proximity to Tsudanuma Station adds to its importance. In 2018 the station saw an average of 69491 daily passengers. This underlines its role in the daily lives of Chiba residents.

Looking ahead the future holds more changes for Shin-Tsudanuma Station. Effective April 2025 it will be operated by Keisei Electric Railway. This is the result of a merger. This merger will absorb Shin-Keisei Electric Railway. Yet despite these changes Shin-Tsudanuma Station’s history will remain. Its story will continue to be told. It’s a place that quietly observes the ebb and flow of Chiba’s development. It’s a place rich with untold stories. We’ve only scratched the surface today. But I hope you now appreciate its hidden past. We’ll move on now to another fascinating location in our tour.
