Founded in 1963 this church stands as a testament to the Christian faith in Osaka. Its history began long before its current building. In 1961 the Japanese Christian Church sought to establish a presence in Nishi Ward. They recruited a pastor from the Suminoe Church.
The initial gatherings were humble. They started in a small building. By 1962 they had a simple church hall. The congregation grew. They needed more space.
In 1963 a decision was made. A proper church building would be constructed. This day April 28th 1963 is commemorated as the founding anniversary of Koroen Church.
The church expanded several times. This reflects its growing influence in the community. The first expansion occurred in 1967. Another followed in 1969. The church continued to grow and its ministry expanded. This included activities with other Christian groups. They also involved themselves in wider outreach programs.
In 1995 the Great Hanshin Earthquake struck. The church was damaged. This prompted rebuilding efforts that reflected the resilience of the community. A new church hall was dedicated in 1997. The building we see today is a product of that reconstruction.
Koroen Church has always had a strong commitment to its members. They celebrated their 10th 20th 30th 40th and 50th anniversaries with special services. They are now celebrating their 60th. This is a testament to the enduring strength of their congregation.
