Wow What a building This is the Fangshan Global Geopark Museum the China Geological Museum Fangshan Branch.
This impressive museum is located in Changgou Town Fangshan District. It’s part of the Fangshan UNESCO Global Geopark a vast area with stunning mountains ancient temples and archaeological sites. The museum itself is a sight to behold. Its glass and stone cladding create a unique and modern look.
The Fangshan Global Geopark Museum isn’t just about pretty architecture. It serves as an introduction to the geopark’s rich history and geology. Inside you’ll find relief models of the entire geopark. You can explore halls featuring models of mountain ranges rock strata and cave systems. The museum also showcases the flora and fauna of the Fangshan area along with mineral and element samples from around the world. It’s a fascinating journey through time and nature.
Although this museum is relatively unknown it’s a significant institution. It’s a branch of the Geological Museum of China a much older institution dating back to the early 20th century. The museum even has a closed area with experiential rooms like an earthquake experience and a fire experience. Unfortunately they were closed during my last visit.
The Fangshan Global Geopark Museum also plays a crucial role in education. It’s used for science education geological research and information sharing. The museum hosts various science-popularisation activities and cooperates with local schools. Students can learn about geoscience and share their knowledge with international exchange students.
