\u5fa1\u673a\u795e\u793e was established in 850 AD. At that time, the shrine was located on the Osaka Bay shore. It was a place to worship deities related to safe voyages. These deities included the spirit of the sun goddess and local land gods.
Over time the shrine became known by different names. It was called Round Shrine, Round River Shrine and Tsuto Shrine. It became the tutelary shrine of Tsuto village in Settsu Province. The shrine moved to its current location in 1594. A local lord donated land to the shrine. He combined it with other smaller shrines.
During the Edo period, \u5fa1\u673a\u795e\u793e was associated with a specific deity. That deity was Gozu Tennō. Also, a temple was built on the shrine grounds. However, the shrine and temple were separated during the Meiji era. This separation was due to a government order. The temple became abandoned. Only a torii gate remains today.
In 1873, \u5fa1\u673a\u795e\u793e was designated a village shrine. This designation recognized its importance to the local community. In 1884, a theater was built on the shrine grounds. It was called the \u5fa1\u673a\u6587\u4e50\u5ea7. It reflected the popularity of performing arts at the time. Unfortunately, the theater burned down in 1926. The main shrine building was also destroyed.
The shrine was rebuilt in 1930. But it was again destroyed during World War II in 1945. The current shrine building was rebuilt in 1957. The torii gate was rebuilt in 1959.
Despite its name \u5fa1\u673a\u795e\u793e is not related to the \u5fa1\u7075 cult. It is a historical landmark with a rich past. It has survived fires, wars, and social changes. \u5fa1\u673a\u795e\u793e continues to be a place of worship and reflection.
