The front gate resembles a triumphal arch. It features three arches. Engraved on it are golden characters. They were inscribed by Dr. Sun Yat-sen. They declare that a noble spirit will never perish. These words echo the enduring impact of the martyrs’ sacrifice.
The mausoleum covers 13200 square meters. The martyrs’ coffin pit is a central feature. It is a square pit with stone railing. Each side measures 17.5 meters. In the center stands a grave pavilion. It resembles a hanging bell. Inside is a gravestone. It reads “72 martyrs’ Grave.”
Behind the coffin pit is a memorial archway. It commemorates the martyrs’ merits during the Republic of China period. At the top stands a 3.4-meter-high stone Statue of Liberty. This symbolizes the martyrs’ pursuit of liberty and democracy. Behind the archway, a tablet records the uprising.
The park also contains many tombs. These include Dengzhouyuan’s grave, Pandawei’s grave and Yangxianyi’s grave. You can also find Shijianru’s temple, Fengru’s grave and Fanhongtai’s grave here. Each site tells a story of sacrifice and dedication.
The environment here is tranquil. Green trees and blooming chrysanthemums fill the park. It is known as one of Guangzhou’s eight new landscapes. It’s named “Chrysanthemums – A noble spirit”. The park was again evaluated as one of the Hot 8 scenic spots of Guangzhou in the new century. It was then named “Holy chrysanthemums in a bright moon”.
The events that led to the uprising are important. In November 1894 Sun Yat-sen established the Xingzhonghui in Honolulu. In February of the next year, Sun built the headquarters of Xingzhonghui in Hongkong. He put forward the first guiding principle of the China democratic revolution.
The Qing Dynasty’s corruption angered many Chinese people. In June 1911, the Railway Protection Movement in Sichuan triggered the Chinese Revolution of 1911. Though the uprising faced setbacks, it ignited a flame.
On December 1st, the Qing government signed an armistice with the revolutionary army. This marks a key turning point. The revolution army changed its strategy from armed struggle to political compromise.
The Chinese Revolution of 1911 was a great bourgeois-democratic revolution. It had far-reaching historic significance in modern Chinese history.
As we leave this place, remember the words of Sun Yat-sen. A noble spirit never perishes. The martyrs of 广东航空先驱胡汉贤墓园 live on in the spirit of China. Their sacrifice paved the way for a new nation.
