In 1973, a new chapter began in the story of Uji City. The Uji City Okurayama Elementary School opened its doors, separating from Kinoka Elementary School. Imagine the excitement of those first students stepping onto the fresh campus. Uji City Okurayama Elementary School quickly became a vital part of the community. Located in the Kinoka Okurayama area of Uji City, Kyoto, it addressed the growing need for educational facilities in a rapidly developing residential area. The school’s early years saw the completion of its pool in 1974 and the establishment of a school song in 1977. Expansion was a constant theme, with additions to the school building in 1980, 2004, 2005, and 2007. This growth reflects the booming population of the surrounding area, which led to a significant increase in the number of children. By 2019, Uji City Okurayama Elementary School was home to nearly 900 students, making it the second-largest elementary school in Kyoto Prefecture. To accommodate this influx, ten new classrooms were added between 2004 and 2009, including repurposed special classrooms. In 2010, the school district boundaries were even redrawn to accommodate the burgeoning student population. Today, Uji City Okurayama Elementary School stands as a testament to the power of community growth and the unwavering commitment to education.
