“Oldest in Higashi Osaka?” That’s the claim to fame of Higashi Osaka Municipal Kosaka Elementary School. Founded in 1873 the school has a rich history. It began as the 49th Elementary School of Kawachi Province. This was during the early Meiji era. Kosaka Village established the school.
The school has changed its name several times. In 1881 it became Kosaka Elementary School. This was part of the second school district in Kawachi Province. By 1893 the name changed again to Kosaka Ordinary Elementary School.
In 1896 the school became Kosaka Ordinary Elementary School of Nakakawachi County. A higher elementary school division was added in 1914. The school then was named Kosaka Ordinary Higher Elementary School of Nakakawachi County.
Kosaka town merged into Fuse City in 1937. Consequently the school’s name changed to Kosaka Ordinary Higher Elementary School of Fuse City. In 1938 the higher elementary division was separated. The school was renamed Kosaka Ordinary Elementary School of Fuse City.
In 1941 a national school order led to another name change. It became Kosaka National School of Fuse City. In 1944 Kami Kosaka National School of Fuse City was separated. This is now Higashi Osaka Municipal Kami Kosaka Elementary School.
After the school system reform in 1947 the name changed again. It became Kosaka Elementary School of Fuse City. Yawata no Sato Elementary School of Fuse City was separated in 1954. This is now Higashi Osaka Municipal Yawata no Sato Elementary School.
Fuse City merged in 1967. It joined with Kawachi City and Hiraoka City. This created Higashi Osaka City. The school was then renamed Higashi Osaka Municipal Kosaka Elementary School. A gymnasium was completed in 1973. A swimming pool was added in 1989.
