What if I told you this school building is younger than many of the trees surrounding it? You might be surprised to learn that Otsu City Karasaki Junior High School, right here before us, wasn’t built until 1977. Believe it or not, this entire area was once owned by the Self-Defense Forces. It was a training ground situated on land that had a rich history, stretching back to its time as a detached palace of the Imperial Family. In 1974, the land was finally released, and the city of Otsu embarked on a mission to transform it. Their vision? To create a hub of education. First came Karasaki Elementary School, Karasaki Kindergarten, and a nursery school. Then, in 1976, a large piece of land intended for a training ground was released by the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications. This enabled the construction of Otsu City Karasaki Junior High School, the 11th junior high school in the city, which opened its doors just a year later. Through the years, this school has witnessed the changing seasons, the laughter of students echoing in its corridors, and the steady growth of knowledge and camaraderie within its walls.
