The school, established in 1924, has seen generations of Kyoto’s children pass through its doors. Initially, it began as a branch of another school, the Kyoto City Ouchi Island Normal School. A few years later, in 1928, it became independent and was known as the Kyoto City Third Ouchi Elementary School. The year 1941 marked a significant change. The school’s name was changed to the Kyoto City Minami Ouchi National School. After World War II, in 1947, it was renamed once again to its current name, 市立南大内小学校, Minami Ouchi Elementary School.
