In 1869, two schools opened their doors, laying the foundation for what would eventually become the Nijō Castle North Elementary School. These were the Kamigyo 14th Ward Elementary School and the Kamigyo 17th Ward Elementary School. Fast forward to 1997, amidst declining birth rates and shrinking classrooms, these two schools merged, giving birth to Nijō Castle North Elementary School. The school stands on the same grounds as the former Kamigyo 14th Ward Elementary School. The old Kamigyo 17th Ward Elementary building isn’t abandoned. It now serves as the Kyoto City Developmental Disabilities Support Center “Kagayaki”. Nijō Castle North Elementary School, nestled in Kyoto’s tranquil northern area, serves around 70 to 100 first-graders each year. This school isn’t just about academics. It’s part of a vibrant community. Nearby, you’ll find the bustling Nijō Station and Nijōjō-mae Station. Shopping centers and restaurants add to the area’s lively atmosphere. A bit further south, discover the historic Nijō Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Safety is a priority in this area. The Kyoto Prefectural Police Headquarters is close by. This creates a secure environment for families and individuals. So, whether you’re a family looking for a safe, enriching environment, or an individual seeking a quiet life near history and convenience, Nijō Castle North Elementary School’s neighborhood offers a unique blend of tranquility and urban accessibility.
