Established in 1882 the Ichikawa City Higashi First Elementary School stands proudly. It’s a testament to Chiba’s rich history. Originally it was formed from the merger of three smaller schools. This happened in 1882. The combined school was called the Sansei Elementary School. Over the years the school’s name changed multiple times. In 1940 it merged with another school. It became the Higashi Ward Higashi Higher Elementary School. The name was shortened to Higashi Elementary School. During World War II it served as a National People’s School. After the war in 1947 it became the Higashi Ward Higashi Elementary School. Further name changes followed. In 1949 it split into two separate schools. Our school became Higashi Ward Higashi First Elementary School. It was renamed again. In 1956 the name changed again. This time to Ichikawa City Higashi First Elementary School. In 1961 the name became Ichikawa City Higashi First Elementary School. A final name change occurred in 1963. It officially became Ichikawa City Higashi First Elementary School. The school moved to its current location in 1972. This marked the beginning of a new era for the school. This location was purpose-built for the school. The school celebrated its 90th anniversary in 1972. In 1989 a portion of the school’s attendance area was given to a newly established elementary school. The school’s enrollment peaked in 1983. It had 658 students then. The school later merged with another elementary school in 2017. However it kept its name. The school grounds cover a large area. It has 16939 square meters. The school buildings themselves cover 3080 square meters. The main school buildings are constructed from reinforced concrete. They were built in 1979. The school has a gymnasium built in 1980. Many smaller structures are also on the grounds. These include sheds and storage facilities. These were built at various times. The school has served its community faithfully. It is a vital part of Chiba. Its history and influence are deeply ingrained in the community. The Ichikawa City Higashi First Elementary School continues to educate future generations.
