Here stands a testament to history resilience and cultural pride the Amagasaki Korean Elementary and Junior High School. Established in 1946 Amagasaki Korean Elementary and Junior High School emerged from the Daisho Korean Elementary School. It started with 14 teachers and 350 students. This institution is run by the Hyogo Korean School Corporation.
Amagasaki Korean Elementary and Junior High School faced many challenges early on. In 1948 the 4.24 Educational Struggle occurred. Then in 1949 schools were closed. However Amagasaki Korean Elementary and Junior High School persevered as a municipal branch school.
In 1956 Amagasaki Korean Elementary and Junior High School established its junior high school division. Later in 1959 school buildings were completed. Official school establishment approval was granted. Over the years Amagasaki Korean Elementary and Junior High School has seen several integrations. These consolidations have strengthened its community.
In 1965 the Daisho and Moribe branch schools unified. The Daisho branch school relocated to its current site. A kindergarten was newly established in 1967. By 1975 Daisho Elementary and Amagasaki Junior High merged adopting the current school name.
In 1976 Ritsuka Korean Elementary School integrated. Then in 2001 Hanshin Korean Elementary School joined Amagasaki Korean Elementary and Junior High School. In 2008 Amagasaki East Elementary School was integrated as well. These mergers showcase Amagasaki Korean Elementary and Junior High School’s growth.
In December 2012 the school buildings underwent earthquake resistance reinforcement and renovation work. In April 2021 Amagasaki Korean Elementary and Junior High School celebrated its 75th anniversary. Today the school serves students from Amagasaki City Ashiya City Nishinomiya City Itami City Kawanishi City and Takarazuka City.
Principal Kim Dae-yeon leads a student body of 137 as of April 2023. This includes kindergarten elementary and junior high students. Amagasaki Korean Elementary and Junior High School acts as a pillar supporting the community. It nurtures ethnic identity and fosters a sense of belonging.
