Established in 1877 the Osaka Shoten Catholic Church boasts a rich history. It wasn’t always this grand structure though. The original church was much smaller. It was built by the French Society for Foreign Missions. The current church building is a testament to resilience. It stands as a symbol of faith and community.

The original church building was completed in 1897. It was dedicated to the Holy Mother Mary. It suffered damage in 1945 during the air raids of World War II. This wasn’t the end for Osaka Shoten Catholic Church however. The church community rebuilt. A new church was constructed and completed in 1952. This church was not the final version though. A further renovation and rebuilding project took place culminating in the beautiful church we see before us today. It was completed in 1993.
