Can a place truly capture the boundless spirit of contemporary art? Here at the Si Shang Art Museum, the answer is a resounding yes. This museum, located just outside Beijing’s sixth ring road, pulsates with the energy of modern creativity. The Si Shang Art Museum isn’t just a collection of static displays. It is a vibrant, 40,000 square-meter space dedicated to sculpture, installation art, and painting. It embraces a dynamic approach, regularly hosting exhibitions, music concerts, and appreciation events.
The Si Shang Art Museum opened its doors in September 2010, after receiving approval from the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture. It prides itself on being an “experiential art museum”, a place where families can connect with art on a deeper level. The Si Shang Art Museum firmly believes that “art will discover unlimited self”. Their mission is to provide a non-material experience, especially for children. They aim to ignite a spark of creativity and understanding of contemporary art. They encourage families to explore the galleries, participate in events, and discover the joy and knowledge that art offers.
The museum’s exhibitions are divided into five categories. They showcase academic themes, feature the work of young artists, and collaborate with curators on special exhibitions. The Si Shang Art Museum also hosts international exchange exhibitions and public welfare exhibitions related to art and cultural education within the Shunyi district. Beyond the galleries, you’ll find a cinema, an experimental theatre, a research center, and a collection center. You can relax at the cafe, browse the art shop and bookstore, or enjoy a drink at the art bar. The Si Shang Art Museum is more than a museum. It is a cultural hub, a place where art comes alive and inspires.
