Wako Elementary School. A beacon of knowledge and community. Established in 1973, Wako Elementary School arose from the rapid growth of the local area. It was formed by splitting off from two older schools, Neyagawa City Shoda Elementary School and Neyagawa City Shomei Elementary School. Wako Elementary serves the children of Kurohara Sugi-cho, Kurohara Jonai-cho, Kurohara Shinmachi, Kiyona Nishi-cho, and Kiyona Higashi-cho in Neyagawa City. It also covers parts of Kami Shoda 2-chome and Takayanagi 5-chome. Wako Elementary School has seen many milestones throughout its history. The PTA was established shortly after the school opened in May 1973. The school charter was formalized in June. In August of the same year, the school building was completed and all students from the Shoda and Shomei branches moved into their new home at Wako Elementary. Eight classrooms were added in 1975. In 1982, the school celebrated its 10th anniversary with a commemorative ceremony and research presentations. Wako Elementary celebrated its 20th, 30th, 40th and 50th anniversaries with similar events. A “School History Museum” was even established in 1994. The school has a rich history of achievement. It received recognition from the Osaka Prefectural Traffic Safety Association in 1996. The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) awarded the school for its safety efforts. Even the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications recognized Wako Elementary for its safety initiatives. The main building underwent significant renovations in 2006. More recently, in 2020, every student at Wako Elementary received their own tablet computer.
