On April 1, 1967, Neyagawa Municipal Chuo Elementary School first opened its doors. It was originally located at 816 Takami, Neyagawa City. The school was established due to the increasing number of children in the surrounding schools. It was formed by dividing and reorganizing the school districts of Neyagawa Municipal Kita Elementary School and Neyagawa Municipal Higashi Elementary School. The school grounds were located at the current site of Neyagawa Municipal Daiichi Junior High School. In 1969, the school moved to its current location, 1-25 Hatsucho, Neyagawa City, after exchanging buildings and land with the junior high school. A tragic event marked the school’s history. On February 14, 2005, a 17-year-old former student entered the school through the south gate and attacked three teachers. One male teacher died, and two female teachers were seriously injured. The school closed for three days following the incident. The attacker was apprehended, and it was later revealed that he sought revenge for bullying he experienced while attending the school. The incident led to increased security measures in Osaka schools. Despite this tragedy, Neyagawa Municipal Chuo Elementary School continues to serve the community. It is known for its special support classes, called “Sugino-koko Gakkyu,” which focus on nurturing students with special needs. The school has a rich history of renovations and expansions. These include the completion of a new west building in 1983, the addition of an audiovisual room in 1989, and the installation of air conditioners in ordinary classrooms and special support classes in 2002. More recent additions include the renovation of the gymnasium in 2014 and the installation of air conditioners in special classrooms in 2019. Neyagawa Municipal Chuo Elementary School continues to adapt and grow. It remains a vital part of the Neyagawa community.
