Opened in April of 1961, Takarazuka City Nishiyama Elementary School initially shared space with Takarazuka Daiichi Elementary School. Imagine the bustling atmosphere as two schools coexisted within the same walls. By September of that year, Nishiyama Elementary moved to its current location, nestled beside Takarazuka Daiichi Junior High School. The school’s history is etched into its very structure. In 1965, a robust four-story steel-framed north school building was completed. A few years later, wooden school buildings were removed, making way for a new health center and printing room. Takarazuka City Nishiyama Elementary School continued to evolve. The schoolyard underwent a complete renovation in 1990. Just two years later, in 1992, a swimming pool was added, providing a refreshing escape for students during hot summer days. Tragedy struck in 1995 with the Great Hanshin Earthquake. The gymnasium became a refuge for approximately 400 people seeking safety. Takarazuka City Nishiyama Elementary School, a testament to resilience, persisted. Technological advancements arrived in 1997 with the installation of GPS electronic observation equipment in the rock garden. Further renovations and additions followed. The north school building’s west wing was renovated in 2002. A year later, in 2003, general school building renovations were finished, and an elevator was installed in the north building. Even the north building’s east entrance and slope received attention in 2005. Takarazuka City Nishiyama Elementary School hasn’t just focused on its physical structure. Community engagement has always been a priority. In April 2006, the community facility “Well Nishiyama” opened its doors. A playground was added in 2010, and air conditioning brought welcome relief in the summer of 2010. More recently, in 2018, school building earthquake resistance work was completed. South school building renovations finished in 2021. That same year, renovations to the rock garden were finalized, culminating in the creation of the “Nishiyama Garden.” Each stone, each building, each update speaks to the enduring legacy of Takarazuka City Nishiyama Elementary School. It stands as a symbol of community, perseverance, and growth within the heart of Takarazuka.
