“Where exactly does Osaka end and Moriguchi begin?” That question might pop into your head as you stand before Moriguchi City First Junior High School. Its grounds straddle the border between Moriguchi and Osaka.
Moriguchi City First Junior High School has a history dating back to 1947. On April 22nd of that year, it was established. Initially, the school operated from a temporary location. It was located within the premises of Moriguchi City Third Elementary School. Later, in July 1947, the school moved to its current location.
The school is located in the western part of Moriguchi City. Interestingly, part of the school’s property extends into the Asahi district of Osaka City.
In October 1952, the school established its official school song. Students sing it at important ceremonies. In September 1978, a cafeteria opened. It provided a convenient place for students to eat lunch. In September 1990, a computer room was completed. This addition helped prepare students for the digital age. A visual and auditory room was established in September 1997.
The cafeteria closed in March 2009. It was then repurposed as a multipurpose classroom. Around the same time, the school started selling boxed lunches daily. From July to September 2009, the gymnasium underwent earthquake resistance upgrades.
Moriguchi City First Junior High School serves the school districts of Moriguchi Elementary School and Yawata Higashi Elementary School. Students from these areas attend the junior high.
